Paul Taylor, the President of the Stags Supporters Association, and the Official Historian of the Stags for the past 25 years, was honoured on Tuesday night at Mansfield Rotary’s meeting held at Portland College. The award of a Paul Harris Fellowship was made following a talk he gave on the history of the Stags between the period 1980 to 2000. The talk was the fourth that Paul had given to Mansfield Rotary spread across the past 18 months, beginning with the Stags origins in 1897.
Those present were once again amazed at Paul’s encyclopedic recall of matches, goal scorers, players, and officials. His record keeping is astonishing and eventually he will present all his records to Mansfield Museum for the benefit of everyone with an interest in the Stags history.
NOTE:
Paul Harris was the founder of Rotary in Chicago, Illinois, USA in 1905 and Paul Harris Fellowship awards are made by Rotary to citizens who have given exceptional service to their local community.

When George Nelson and Russ Davis announced, they were going to row the Atlantic to raise funds for local dementia charities, Mansfield Rotary were amongst the first to donate to the pair. Last year on 25th April George came to a Mansfield Rotary meeting and spoke about the journey that was to start later that year.
Once the row began on December 1st last year, members of Mansfield Rotary along with hundreds of other local people, began following their epic journey via the Oar Blimey website and the regular updates that George & Russ made available via the local media and the Oar Blimey website and social platforms.
This Tuesday, 9 April, George kept a promise he made back in April 2023 and came back to Mansfield Rotary, together with his wife Linda to talk about the incredible journey that was completed last month. George spoke with great energy and enthusiasm and at times raw emotion as he recalled the amazing experience which he illustrated with photos.
In acknowledgement of an incredible achievement and to further support local dementia charities Mansfield Rotary President Paul Bacon, on behalf of its members, presented Oar Blimey with a cheque for £1000 which George accepted to add to the money being raised for Our Dementia Choir and Ladybrook Enterprises.

A huge thank you to @cctrust for their hospitality and warm welcome they gave us during our visit to Tapton Lock in Chesterfield on Tuesday.
The evening saw us enjoy a trip on a narrow boat, a guided walk along a section of the canal and a fantastic fish, chips and peas supper.

We were absolutely delighted to welcome Inspector Kylie Davies, the Neighbourhood Policing Inspector responsible for local policing in Mansfield, to our latest meeting at The Rufford. Insp Davies spoke in detail about the policing priorities in our town and took part in a question and answer session with Rotarians, which was enjoyed by all.
We’d like to thank Insp Davies for taking time out of her busy schedule to attend our meeting and we wish her every success with her role.
Mansfield Rotarian Cate Hunt, a past President and a prodigious walker is walking the Scottish Coast to Coast route to raise money for Spectrum WASP, who offer support and care for parents and young people on the autistic spectrum with disabilities, special and additional needs. And also for Mansfield Rotary's Youth Services team.
Accompanied by close friend Jane, the pair set off on Tuesday 6th September to take on the mammoth 214 mile trek. Faced with ever changing weather and rugged walking conditions the pair have remained upbeat and happy and have sent daily updates to fellow Rotarians and all those who have sponsored them.

A life-saving defibrillator has been installed at Berry Hill Park following a donation by caring members of Mansfield Rotary Club.
The device, which cost around £1,500 and gives a high energy electric shock to the heart of someone who is in cardiac arrest, has been fitted at the entrance to the changing rooms and offices of Mansfield Harriers Athletics Club.
Installed by Bobby Thorpe, of Thorpe Electrical Solutions, on behalf of the Rotary Club, it is registered on The Circuit – the national defibrillator network – and connected to the East Midlands Ambulance Service.
Rotarian John Whiteley, a Past President and Leader of Mansfield Rotary Club’s Community and Vocational Team, said: “Mansfield Rotary Club has a proud connection with Berry Hill Park, which started in 2012 with a community-boosting project to breathe new life into what is long considered to be the jewel in the crown of the town’s parks.
“Therefore, we are delighted to have donated the defibrillator. They are vital safety devices and the more there are out there, the more lives that could potentially be saved.
“Of course, we hope it will never be needed but it will provide reassurance to Mansfield Harriers and park users for many years to come.”
Pat Carlan, President of Mansfield Harriers, is ‘the guardian’ of the equipment and ensures it is fully operational at all times.
